120k service, NOX upgrade

After seven year, we are getting closer to 120.000 km mark. Currently at 114.000 km, car is calling on service. Hopefully not because there is something wrong with it. But because previously, i’d always do service before winter, so there is new engine oil lubricating on the cold days of Scandinavian winters. So interval has been moved by few thousands kilometers.

But, most exciting is, exciting is not proper term… Nervous perhaps fits better. Danish authorities are forcing all cars involved in Volkswagen Dieselgate (NOX fraud) to be upgraded. And mine is one of them. So this time around, beside interval service, there will be a software upgrade and installation of “plastic pipe” of some kind, to make airflow to the engine more even. Or something like that.

But, in the last year, there have been plenty reports, where owners experienced problems with their cars, after this same upgrade. Where EGR, injectors, particle filter and other exhaust systems would fail. Volkswagen does not think these were connected to upgrade itself, but nevertheless used to fix the issues either free of charge or with considerable discounts. I wonder why, they are being so generous?

We’ll see, how it works out for me…

Still waiting …

I stopped counting days and then even months…
It’s certainly been more than a half a year since submission of my case.
Last year… October or something…

But I am still waiting for the closure in the case, about problems with gearbox vows I have had since I bought my current VW car with DSG7.

Unbelievable that it takes a big corporation 2 years and counting, to fix a car problem. Or at least offer a new car, after all I did not buy a car, so that VW mechanics can practice on my car.

Noise and shaking is back … again

Oh well … it lasted for a 6 months and problem is back again … Just like, the last times. They claim to have fixed it, and it lasts for few weeks, sometimes months and it’s back again …

Last night, I was driving and felt the grinding noise and shaking, again. I thought to have heard the noise before, very faintly  but tried to convince myself, that it was mine imagination. This time it was no mistake what it was. Drove for few kilometers and on an intersection after a full stop, it started to grind and shudder. Glanced at the odometer, and saw, 47.502 km. Which is about 4.500 km since VW claimed to have fixed the problem, and there was nothing wrong with the car.

Difference now is, I have case against them, and can’t complain about it, while this is going on. And the car is out of warranty, but VW ensured me that there is still two year warranty on parts they already replaced. So If it turns out it is still the same parts that are breaking, warranty will hopefully cover it. Unless they decide to replace something else now, or… after the legal proceedings are done.

Sent yet another mail

Just sent yet another mail, asking for updates.
Last time I spoke to them on the phone, they told me, that they are not going to do anything unless they can find this “reference car” that matches my model. Deadline for this was on November 9th, but they extended it indefinitely. Wanted to know if I am waiting for this car till kingdom come or what?

UPDATE: Got the reply. They are doing nothing, as result of my complaint to Authority for car complaints (or whatever it is called in English :-)) …
Which is understandable. But I would still prefer, VW tried to fix this, instead of waiting for some bodies conclusion on, whether they should have sold me the car or not.

So for now, there is nothing but to wait…

Created an official complaint with bilklage.dk

As agreed last time I spoke to the Service Partner, where they are looking to find a reference car to compare it to mine. No news yet and they are not going to do anything before they can find this reference car.

While we are waiting, I have finally decided to file a complaint to Danish officials. So we will see what comes out of this.

Called my Service Partner today

After waiting for more than 7 business days, and no contact by them,  I decided to call them.

So I call them, and they are waiting for a “reference” car. Which means, a car that has same specs and similar mileage as mine. This, I was told a year ago as well. Their plan is, find this reference car and check if it is making the same noise and behaviour as mine does. If it does, they will see what they can do. If it does not, then I have no merit in my complaints. That’s what they are planing and saying.

I told them about this reference car, that I was promised last year, and was “never found”. What would make it any different this time? They assured me that they are good in finding stuff like this. Well, I guess we will see. A bit less than a month left on my warranty.

All this, to me, sounds like dragging feet, until my warranty expires. I hope I am wrong, but they haven’t heard last from me just yet.

At the same time I informed them about my research from here, they claim that they never heard about China, Russia, USA extending warranties and complaints on other models with DSG7 gearbox around the world. So I sent them links to the documents. If in China more than 1 million DSG7 units are sold and they all got extended warranty, hard to believe there were no internal memos sent throughout VW concern. But I guess 1 million (probably) faulty units are not cause for concern in VW.

Nobody is contacting me…

Have been waiting for 3 business days, for my VW Service Partner to contact me, and no contact… So I just sent an email to them. Forwarding entire mail from VW Denmark… So, again… waiting …

Posted my story on Volkswagen Danmark Facebook page

So, late last night, after 8-9 days waiting for a reply on my latest mail to Volkswagen DK, I decided to post my story on Volkswagen Danmark’s Facebook page publicly. Early this morning I got a comment from maintainers of the said page, asking for my contact information so they can have a look, what is happening. Later the same day, person that I was corresponding with, finally answered my emails, and mentioned that she has requested my local VW Service Partner contact me and finish this case. So let’s see what will come out of this …
