Friends! Daily work on the problem box DSG – ours and our partners (public officials and lawyers), and your support – have brought the first positive results. July 24th we received a letter from the representatives of JSC “Volkswagen Group Rus” as follows: (1) a guarantee of the diagnosis and repair free of charge at the box DSG-7 DQ200 0AM be extended to 5 years or 150 thousand km run, (2) it applies to all group brands (VW, Skoda, Seat), except for Audi.     3 x gearboxes fitted to date, mechatronics unit replaced yesturday after some yelling and screaming at VW australia have experience a loss of power when in manual mode on one occassion but dealler could not find fault to third box and just suggested to monitor. Some shudeering when cornering at low spead with no fix.
    High oil consumption dealer fitted intake/ breather pipe and I have to return car after 100km to see if it has fixed the problem this was after the initial 1000km oil consumption test.
    VW australia customer care allthough listen don’t do anything at all what is the use in that. I have requested a refund on my car with no response to date.
    Do you think this is reasonable as the car has never been fit for purpose… the fine print on the warranty says I am entitled to replacement or refund for a major fault .. If this is not a major fault them what is.
    Your thoughts / advice would be appreciated.

    Warranty rules are different from country to country, so I can’t comment on how it works in Australia. But here in Denmark, you should be eligible for a new car, or money back, if the car is defective and still under warranty. But unfortunately, companies have and know about loop holes in the system, so consumer rights are not always met.

    In my case, with Touran, VW DK is refusing to acknowledge the problem, and claim that all they did is comply with my complaints and fixed it every time. But the car is not fixed. And probably was never fit for its purpose. So now it’s up to a Consumer Council to decide who is right. Almost 10 months have passed, and no decision has been reached yet. In the mean time, I could be driving death-trap.

    So if I were you, I will claim my rights and do all I can to make VW understand, this is not something consumer(s) are going to accept.

    If VW Australia decided to replace the gearbox 3 times already then there must be a problem. Let’s see the facts, which are in your favour.

    – Car is still under warranty?
    – All services have been upheld, at authorised service partners?
    – Defective gearbox, as it is replaced 3 times already.
    – Mechatronic unit replaced as well.

    Taking into account that at least one traffic accident, which resulted in death of the driver, is linked to the faulty DSG7 gearbox, is also, something you should keep in mind and focus on in your complaints.
